How to remember what you study for exam

The initial and the most crucial thing is to have the subject matter, rather than go out memorising it. You forget the information very fast when you study without understanding. Slowly read and then ask yourself the question why and how and make yourself explain what you have read in your own words. You can take an example of a definition that you memorised, but now you are going to teach it to a friend. When you have the concept in a clear manner, it would be natural to remember it.

The other error that most of the students commit is studying long hours without taking a break. Spending 45 hours at a time does not appear to be very productive, on the contrary, it impairs memory. Learning in small groups is much more appropriate. Studying with the Pomodaro Technique -25-40 minutes of studying and a 5-10 minutes break will keep your brain sharp, you will be more focused and will not be mentally tired, and thus you will remember better

The secret of long-term memory is revision. Students forget things later because they study a certain topic once and proceed with their studies. Fixing the information in your mind is best achieved by revising after a day, a week and one more time before exam. The brief revision of 10-15 minutes would be a significant change.

Another effective method of remembering what you learn is writing. It is simply not very good since it is boring to read notes repeatedly. Answering questions, taking brief notes, or brainstorming is a more engaging activity of your brain. Your brain tends to process information when you write thus, remembering it easily in case you have to write an exam.

Simple memory tricks can also be utilized in order to make the study more engaging. Remembering through the creation of mnemonics, the conversion of facts into little stories, or visual representation using pictures, diagrams, or charts can be more effective at remembering. Our brain is fond of colours, stories, and feelings, thus the learning process is accelerated and more pleasant with the help of these techniques. One of the best methods of remembering anything is to teach someone. The more you tell a friend, sibling or even a non-existing student about a subject, the more you get to comprehend it. When you manage to teach a concept with a lot of confidence, then you know that concept and will not forget it easily during the exam.Cramming: It is better not to cram at the last minute, this will only raise stress and confusion. Learning it all the evening before an exam usually results in poor sleeping and poor memory. Rather, you have to begin early, study a bit daily and ensure that you have a good sleep before the exam. The mind is more relaxed and rested, and it recalls the information much well. You have to take good care of your body as you do with your studies. Your brain requires you to sleep, drink plenty of water, eat well, and have short breaks in order to perform well. You should never disregard your health because, regardless of how much you study, it will adversely impact your memory and performance in exams Lastly, it is important to be calm during the exam. In some cases, students do not know answers, but they forget them due to panic. Deep breathing, reading questions attentively and answering easier questions at the beginning can make you feel confident and your memory will work well.

Ultimately, it is not about studying more intensively, it is about being smarter in what you study. Your results will improve exam results will become clear When you know things, revision, practise, write, take care of your mind and body.
