Smart study tips for exam preparation

Examinations are usually stressful, baffling and intimidating, particularly when the curriculum is huge and time is a factor. Most students work so many hours studying yet they fail to get the expected outcome. This is because it is not only necessary to study hard but also smart. Intelligent study strategies can be used to enhance concentration, memorization, and self-esteem, as well as exam preparation is more efficient among school pupils, college pupils, and students, who prepare to some competitive examination.

They should have clear study goals and this is one of the most important smart study habits. It is preferable to have a specific plan on what will be examined in a book rather than a general one. Specific goals are clear and focus the mind and eliminate confusion. Being able to write down goals per day in a journal or in a phone can also enhance concentration and responsibility.

Another important thing in smart exam preparation is to create a realistic schedule of study. An effective schedule breaks down the day into manageable chunks to study in, allocate more time to challenging subjects, and have adequate breaks, meals and sleep. Unrealistic schedules should be avoided and one should begin with small and realistic targets. A straightforward schedule which has been adhered to is much better than an ideal one that is not followed.

Discipline can be enhanced significantly with the help of such techniques as Pomodoro method. Breaks are taken in short intervals in between the short periods of 25 to 40 minutes of study as a way of avoiding mental exhaustion and burnout. Light exercises like stretching, drinking water are beneficial during breaks, but scrolling on the social media is not because it interferes with concentration.

An undisrupted learning atmosphere is also significant in learning performance. Studying somewhere quiet and clean with the phone in silent or airplane mode is also a way of ensuring concentration. Any distraction, even the slightest one, may disrupt the concentration and decrease the working efficiency, which is why a special study place is of great use.

Learning concepts and not just memorising them will enhance better learning and retention. In cases where students take time to grasp issues through examples or real life experiences memorizing them becomes easy. There is also a strong method of teaching the topic to oneself or explaining to the other person, which helps to reinforce the understanding.

It is necessary to remember what has been studied which is only possible through regular and intelligent revision. Learning should be reinforced by short note revision on a daily and weekly basis and the use of charts and mind maps. It is also effective to revise what was learned before going to bed since the brain is more effective at retaining information when it is asleep.

One of the best strategies of exam preparation is practising question papers of the past year. It prepares the students on the pattern of the exam, important topics to cover, and confidence building. The practice also eliminates exam fear as the students are used to the kind of questions they should answer.

Lastly, the importance of health care is paramount in the course of examination preparation. Enough sleep, healthy food, and hydration are some of the means, which supply the brain with the energy it requires to perform well. This is because by never studying late in the night one can keep a fresh active brain and one will perform better in the exams.
